As the 25th February is my birthday, I was treated to set of Infrared Filters for Fujifilm X-T3. The idea is to use these filters, and see if I like them enough to eventually purchase a full spectrum converted camera.
I took the camera, filters, and my brand new Zomei tripod across to the beach where there is a large grassed area, and some interesting objects. Sadly, I didn’t get time to go somewhere with trees, but that will be an altogether different day and different challenge!
The set if filters comes with a 720, 760, 850 and 950 variants on 52mm threads. They were attached to my Fujifilm X-T3 with 15-45mm and I took two photos with each filter. The time of exposure varied from around a second to 40 seconds. All EXIF data is in the images as always.
Editing was achieved in ON1 Photo Raw 2021.1 with simple colour swapping and adjustments to contrast, exposure and clarity. An LUT was added bring out the colour on a couple of the images.
Although the initial infrared images look like there is not much colour in some of them, there is a lot to play with with the files once you have performed some channel mixing. You can simply take white balance from selected areas of an image, and this will give you other results.
This is just my first experience with Infrared, so there will be much more to come!
