It’s been a looking time since I discussed what gear I have, so it’s time to lay it out for you all to see. I’ll also explain my future and more, so let’s jump right in and look at “my current gear”.
Cameras.
Where would we be without our cameras right? Here is a look at the cameras I own as of the end of May 2025.
- Nikon Z6ii
- Nikon ZF
- Fujifilm Instax Evo
My Nikon Z6ii really is my workhorse, it’s been with me for a year and worked harder and more efficiently than any Fujifilm camera I ever owned. I’ve recently bought the Nikon ZF which is my “me-time” camera (which I’ll talk about in a future blog) and will be used occasionally side-by-side with the Z6ii (weddings for example).
I am in two minds what to do with the Instax Evo. It rarely gets used these days, and when it does, it’s usually as a printer. The family like that little camera, so some thought will go into it’s future.

Lenses.
My lens collection has been very stable with the return to Nikon cameras, I haven’t been buying and selling them at anywhere near the rate I did with my Fujifilm equipment.
- Nikkor Z 24-70mm F/4
- Nikkor Z 40mm F/2
- Viltrox Z 85mm F/1.8
- Viltrox Z 20mm F/2.8
- TTArtisan Z 11mm F/2.8 (manual focus fisheye)
- Tamron Z 150-500mm
- Retropia Z 32mm Repurposed disposable lens
- Tamron Z 90mm Macro (coming Wednesday next week).

For the first time in a long time, I now use all the lenses regularly, as they all have their own usage.
The 24-70mm is my general walk around lens on my Z6ii, the 40mm is almost permanently attached to my Nikon ZF, the 85mm is my portrait and event lens (to be used alongside the 40mm), the 20mm and 11mm I use for landscapes or artistic portraits and the 150-500mm I use for birds and wildlife.
Next week I have the 90mm macro lens coming, I’ve owned macro lenses in the past, and I’ve always enjoyed them. Now, with more modern cameras and IBIS, and more patience, I’m looking forward to dipping into the world of macro once again.
Lighting.
I have more than enough general lighting, including always-on spot lights, but here I will concentrate on just my flashes that I have used and use and own.
- Godox AD200
- Godox TT685
- Neewer manual flash (slave)
- Generic manual flash (slave)
It’s only the last year that I have started using flash a lot, and it’s something I cannot live without now. For most events/portraits etc I use the AD200, for family/selfie and some events I use the TT685. When I’m in a studio environment I’ll often also use the two manual flashes I have as slave devices.
The future for cameras, lenses and lighting.
Before going to Fujifilm, I always had a two camera setup, and for some reason I dabbled with multiple systems for the years I was with Fuji. Of course it was fun, and I got to experience many different systems, but it’s nice to be back with Nikon, and all the benefits having 2 main cameras from the same ecosystem give you.
I have no future plans to buy a new full frame camera. The Z6ii and ZF are more than enough for work and play.
As far as lenses go, currently, as mentioned, I use them all and I think all bases are covered. Sometimes I think about getting 14mm-19mm coverage, but I honestly don’t miss those focal lengths, and they are something I can recreate with the 11mm fisheye buy “de-fishing” if I ever have to.
When it comes to lighting, I have been looking at tiny little flashes that sit on your camera, just for family use. You can pick them up very cheaply, they’re not super powerful, but I think I’m certain circumstances they could be handy and fun. It’s something to think about anyway.
Conclusion.
I’ve been lucky to build up a nice collection of cameras, lenses and lighting. I know I don’t have any F/2.8 zooms that are so popular (and so expensive), but at heart I’m a lover of prime lenses (5 of my 7 lenses price this!) and they are nearly all better in low light that an F/2.8 zoom lens. I like to work with a 40mm and 85mm attached, with a 20mm in my bag for super-wide if needed.
Going forward, I am tempted by a 50mm F/1.4 lens, which I think could be useful, but would I just it enough to justify getting it? I also wonder about getting rid of the 150-500mm, as it only gets used for wildlife and birds… That is always on my mind.
Whatever the future brings, join me here at onecameraonelens.com to continue with my journey.

Hey Mark,
You’ve built up an impressive gear set — and quite rapidly too, considering you made the switch at the end of January 2024. That’s only about a year and a half ago! I get that you’re hesitant to make certain decisions, like with that 50mm f/1.4 — many of your photos fall in the wide-angle or portrait range, and 50mm sits awkwardly in between. Back in the day, I would’ve just said “go for it,” but then again, with our old 35mm film cameras, we didn’t know any better. Personally, I shot almost exclusively with 50mm during the film era.
These days, I tend to wait longer before pulling the trigger on gear — it helps me avoid impulse buys, and truth be told, the things you really want usually don’t just vanish.
As for flash, I picked up a Godox Lux Junior a while ago — a fun little flash that comes in different colors and totally feels like something from the film days. Runs on 3 AAA batteries, very old-school vibe. They even make one with a fold-out fan reflector!
You’re doing great, Mark. Take your time — things usually fall into place eventually.
Enjoy your Thursday!
Marc.

Thank you Marc. I’ve actually looked at the Lux Junior, but I’m leaning towards the Godox IM30. For me, I need a quick flash refresh rate, and although the IM30 and Lux have the same refresh times, I seem to be seeing more reviewers leaning towards the IM30… I find 3.6 seconds quite a long time in waiting for the flash, but for family and fun, it should be serviceable!
Thank you, oh, and I think because I have the 40mm (my very favourite focal length) and it’s so close to 50mm, that is making it hard to decide too!
I’m trying to be good with my gas 😂

I was waiting for Nikon to upgrade Z7ll to Z7lll. I would have bought one. I have the Z6ll now but I don’t want to upgrade to Z6lll when the Z6ll works perfectly fine.

Yes, the Z6ii is amazing, it’s my workhorse for weddings, events and portraits! I love it. Thank you 🙏

It doesn’t seem like one camera one lens anymore. Have you thought about rebranding your website? Just asking.

I only ever use one camera and one lens at a time 👌 they all have their purpose. Thank you.
