Cardiff Bay And Photo Editor News

A trip today to our capital city Cardiff. More specifically Cardiff Bay. Having done a recon of this site not so long ago, I knew the images I wanted to get, and today I am happy with the outcome. We have a few members away at the moment, but still had a nice turnout of 8 of us, which was quite a perfect number for this kind of venue anyway.

All these images were edited in Darktable nightly. The reason I am back with Darktable is that the prices of Adobe’s packages have gone up, and I am not willing to pay the 100% increase (although I did talk to them and it became a 50% increase but tied into a contract). So Darktable is once again my main editor. To be honest, I love Darktable, and I have still been using it, even with Photoshop etc.

Instead of my Z24-70mm lens that I used last time, I used a 20mm F/2.8, 40mm F/2 and an 85mm F/1.8 this time. I love using primes, and I just think the images look so much better with them instead of with a zoom.

  1. Beautiful series, Mark! I love how you edited them—they have a vintage, film-like pastel look, while the brown and red tones are enhanced. Just stunning! They’re all gorgeous, and it’s hard to pick a favorite, but #18 stands out: the mask on its side, the flowers on it, with the brick-red building in the background—superb!

As for Adobe, I think if they lowered their prices significantly, they’d get way more subscriptions and probably make more money than by raising them. Right now, they seem to be driving people away—I see it everywhere.

    All the best, Mark!
    Marc.
