Printing is important in photography for a number of reasons. First, it allows photographers to share their work with others in a tangible way. When someone sees a print of a photograph, they can appreciate the artistry and skill that went into creating it in a way that they simply cannot when they see it on a screen. Additionally, prints can be used to decorate homes and offices, making them a great way to add personal touches to any space. Finally, prints can be used to preserve memories for years to come. Unlike digital files, which can be lost or corrupted, prints can be passed down from generation to generation, ensuring that cherished memories are never forgotten.
Here are some more specific reasons why printing is important in photography:
- It allows photographers to share their work with others in a tangible way.
- When someone sees a print of a photograph, they can appreciate the artistry and skill that went into creating it in a way that they simply cannot when they see it on a screen. The tactile experience of holding a print in your hands and seeing the colours and details come to life is simply not possible with a digital image.
- Prints can be used to decorate homes and offices, making them a great way to add personal touches to any space.
- Whether you frame your prints and hang them on your walls or display them in albums or photo books, they can add a touch of beauty and personality to any room.
- Prints can be used to preserve memories for years to come.
- Unlike digital files, which can be lost or corrupted, prints can be passed down from generation to generation, ensuring that cherished memories are never forgotten. A well-made print can last for decades, even centuries, providing a lasting record of important moments in your life.
- Shoot film like you should and make sure every time you hand in a roll that you get it printed from the negatives so you can actually see how your image really looks.
If you’re a photographer, I encourage you to consider printing your work. It’s a great way to share your passion with others, add beauty to your home or office, and preserve your memories for years to come.

I totally agree, problem is that we have all gotten used to those smartphone screens and have forgotten that an analogue print is much nicer.

It’s like the difference between sending an email and sending a hand-written note on a personalized stationary. The latter has more intimacy and emotion attached to it. And it tends to be more treasured by the recipient because of the person’s effort.
