My Year Long Project Is Complete! Here Is The Result.

As many of you know, during 2024 I had a year long project which seen me organise a selfie-portrait session each and every month without fail. The idea was to get good at a number of things. Firstly, of course, being confident in photographing myself. Secondly it was to practise the use of flash and lighting. I learned a heck of a lot during that 12 months, and over the sessions I ended up editing just over 200 images that I was happy with. For this project completion, I decided to choose 50 images from those sessions and make a book. Here is how it went.

I was originally going to print out a book with all 200+ images, but after starting to get that into motion, I realised that at this time, a book with that many images of me was just too over-indulgent. I had the idea of getting a scrap-book type photo album put together by myself, and so decided to get my favourite images printed, bought the book needed and all the other pieces of the puzzle so that I could get my project complete.

Heavy duty black page book, 6×4 mat printed photos, corners and sticky squares as adhesive.

I decided to go with this 8×8 inch scrap-book, which has heavy-duty black pages. Images are 6×4 prints, printed on mat paper. The other bits and pieces I used to secure the images into place. The process of putting the images into the book took me around 90 minutes, and I still have a bit of room at the back of the book which I will use Fujifilm Instax images, which I think will complement these 6×4 images nicely.

I went with the mat look, as well as a frame, just to stand out from my usual prints which are usually gloss with no border. I really like the way they turned out too! Again, I used FreePrints, and I was super impressed by the quality of the images.

Here is a look inside the book!

I am overall very happy with the result. Seeing the images in print is absolutely amazing, and it adds a whole new depth to the images not seen when viewed digitally. It has been a great project, where I learned a lot and had a lot of fun!

I hope you like the results, let us know in the comments.

  1. Hey Mark !

Amazing work you’ve put together, and great choices you’ve made – the book looks fantastic. Beyond all the effort and the learning process you’ve gone through, I think this book could also serve as a portfolio of your work. Perhaps alongside a separate one showcasing your model work, it could be a powerful tool when meeting potential clients for photoshoots. It’ll inspire ideas for poses and concepts. Not to mention, there’s real value in having physical prints in a book rather than just online photos on a laptop. It’s likely to offer much more too.

    Great job !

    all the best, Marc.
