A Retro Vibe Photoshoot

As you all know, I am enjoying doing portrait photoshoots lately, and this one was no different. It was a lovely sunny (but chilly) spring day when we visited Swansea and photographed our wonderful model Jessica.

My aim with these images was to capture a retro-vibe, and with Jessica’s outfit, I think I captured that vibe. Jessica (@Dela_Jey on Instagram) is always a brilliant model, who happily goes along with the flow, which makes photography much easier!

I took my trusty Nikon Z6ii and used my Nikon Z40mm F/2 and Viltrox 85mm F/1.8, both wide open at all times. It still amazes me that the eye-autofocus just hits every time. I rarely check my photos on the back of the camera, and usually wait until I get home (or show the model the latest shots).

These colour edits were made in the latest version of ON1 PhotoRaw 2025, but I may just make some black and white edits in Darktable in the coming days. Please click on the images to see them full screen on your device.

I am super happy with the results, and Jessica likes them too, which is a bonus! Please let me know your thoughts. Next week’s adventure is completely different, as I take a group to a set of waterfalls that I have never explored!

Comments, likes and subscription is always welcome.

  1. Nice location, Mark, and the colors are well matched with the model and the surroundings – and speaking of those surroundings, I really like them: the railing, stairs, bicycle bridge, etc. The poses are well done, but I found the previous model had more of a fun factor in the photos, which gave them more punch – though that might just be a personal preference. Anyway, great series!

    1. Thank you Marc, yes, all models have their own personalities and photograph very different. Jessica is a wonderful woman to photograph with, but indeed she is very different to Rosie. The location is brilliant, and hopefully I will get more models in that area this year. Again, thank you Marc, means a lot that someone actually looks at my posts!
