Fuji X-Trans III

Welcome to the Fuji Film Simulations resource centre (X-Trans III Section), where I share with you my film simulation recipes for Fujifilm X-T cameras. Although these were designed using an X-Trans III sensor, they will work with all versions of X-Trans sensors with little or no tweaking. My aim is two-fold, to create my own unique film simulations and to emulate old film stock as closely as I can. In these settings there is the option to add grain (as you will know as a Fuji user), I don’t usually tend to use grain at all, although if needed for effect I will add it. Please play with this option yourself to see if it is suitable for you to use. We currently have 20 unique X-Trans III film simulations!

I do not get paid for this, so any support is welcome. My PayPal is mgadams1970@gmail.com and any donations will go to the cost of yearly hosting.

I hope that you all find these film simulations useful. They have all been tested in camera (Fujifilm X-T20) and in Fujifilm X Raw Studio. You may need to change the settings slightly in a different camera with different X-Trans sensor.

  1. I’ve heard great things about your M10 Mono sim, and am just about to give it a whirl. Question for you though: why Monochrome+G instead of Acros+G? In low light when the ISO bumps up, doesn’t Acros produce more pleasing (i.e. grain-like) noise? Or do you find that Monochrome has a different enough colour curve that makes it that much better? I’m curious as to your thoughts on this.

Awesome site, BTW! Just stumbled across it and am glad to have found what I found. Cheers.

    1. Thank you for your comment. Yes, I find that mono+G just works better with more contrast. Acros is lovely, but it’s too “soft” to replicate the Leica look. Of course, the recipes are all a base, and in always happy for people to tweak them. It’s all just a bit of fun anyway. Again, thank you very much for the comment.

  3. Great site !! Question: RE ‘MGA Provia Natural’ – is the left hand photo meant to be provia standard, and the right hand picture the simulation? If so, should the simulation be +4 color rather than -4 color? or are the pictures maybe the wrong way around? thanks…

  4. Hi, thanks for these. What are your go to recipes for outdoor and indoor family shots? Also, how do you get the custom settings to save the white balance shift?

    1. My go-to recipe for family is MGA Colour Chrome, on Fujifilm cameras older than the X-T4, you can’t save more than one custom WB Shift per setting (1 for auto, 1 for Cloudy etc).

  5. Only just come across your site and have already put your M10 v1 recipe into my X-Pro2. Excited to give it a try when the weather clears. On my X-T4, before I sold it!, I had an IR recipe and simply loved the dark skies and high contrast, ‘other worldly’, look. I note you don’t have an IR recipe but how close would you say your MGA Acros+R Deep (“Dark Skies”) recipe is to the IR look? Great work, thank you.

    1. Firstly, thank you. The “Dark Skies” will just darken the skies, I do not have an IR recipe, the funny thing is, I actually do shoot IR using filters, so I’ve never felt the need to design a recipe. I shall look into it! Again, thank you!

  6. Kodachrome is hands down the best looking Kodachrome recipe for X-Trans III! I love it and use it for rainy days and summer shots! Thank you for the recipes! Any chance you can do a Portra recipe for X-Tran iii?

  7. Which Leica Monochrome version do you prefer? V1 or V2? I see that you mention V2 is better if people are in the shot but for general street photography which one do think works better overall? I’m usually a raw shooter but just picked up an X-E3 and this film simulation thing is new to me. My only gripe is that there are only seven slots available to preload simulations!
