Day 10 sees us asking you just how long have you been enjoying photography? That is, buying gear, thinking about the photos you are taking and thinking of it as a hobby or profession.
I think we’ve all enjoyed taking photos, regardless if it’s been on film or digital, on an instant camera or on your mobile phone. But how far can you look back and think to yourself, that’s how long I have had this passion?
The World is ever changing, and I know some of us have spells where we like other things, and photography takes a back seat for a while, before resurfacing again some years later. So this looks at how long since you first caught the bug!
I am a semi-professional photographer who runs a weekly meeting photography group as well as numerous Facebook groups (Great Photography Walks South Wales and Fujifilm Lovers Worldwide Group). I also have a brand-new blog website dedicated to various other things which I like to call The Ramblings Of A Welshman. I hope you can join me there; you might find it interesting!
First camera was a Minolta 110 Autipak. I thought that it so cool and hi-tech. I think it some red controls Something jammed on it and I figured all I have to do is take it apart and I can fix it…20 years I found the prices in a small box. Yeah.

I can easily go back 50 years, and my real first camera must have been a Voigtlander Bessa, a folding camera with bellows. Those were the days !

Took photos as a kid with a Brownie (the smaller one than the Hawkeye). Always interested in Drama, Radio/TV and while getting a Bus Admin Degree — Marketing Major from UW in ’64 worked at the university radio and TV station and took courses related to Drama. Began work in business and transferred to current location and started back with photography having been the first House Manager for ACT in Seattle which was a pro summer stock theatre. Taking photos was expensive so began working by learning on the job as a wedding photographer and went full time a few years later for the next 30 or so years before retiring. Earned an MPA and also taught at a community college for a number of years. Glad to be retired with advent of the digital age but did for many years travel and take lots of images and still love to play with images using a variety of programs that come to the market. Influenced by a number of great photographers and try to continue to learn from many YT creators of content related to photography. Still fun.

Fantastic history Murray, and I’m really glad that photography is still fun. It really has to be, as it’s something that gets you so involved in taking part.

I answered the poll for my current stint in photography, starting around 2012. Had 2 previous stints long ago but had to quit. The current stint will probably last as long as I do.
