Street Photography At Neath, Wales

A new year is upon us and a new attitude along with a fresh interest in doing things my way, so what better start than to take the group out for some street photography. It was an exceptionally cold day with temperatures of just 1 degree when we met, and only rising to 4 degrees by the time we left, but that did not deter us from enjoying a wonderful day full of street photography.

We met at the local multi-story car park for a circular route at the historic market town of Neath, a small town in South Wales, only a matter of miles from where I live now, and discovered just how diverse this area really is. It was our first meet of 2024, and I was surprised at the large turnout, but more importantly, I was surprised at the wanting of knowledge and learning the group now thrives upon, as we spoke not just about the history of the areas we came across, but the techniques used to capture images in certain ways.

A few of us who were willing to have our photographs taken near the end of our meeting.

I decided for this event I would take my Fujifilm X-T3 and Viltrox 13mm, plus my XF16-80mm lens, and I used both on a regular basis, depending on what I was photographing. There was no rushing around, so unlike previous years where I’ve felt rushed, we all helped out with gear and equipment etc.

Images were initially edited in ON1 Photo Raw 2024 Max, but I only shared the few I edited with ON1 on social media. For my main editing, I decided to use Darktable 4.7 (nightly build). I keep going back to Darktable, because I truly enjoy using it, it is fast, feature packed and I can just do things with it that I can’t always do easily with other software.

Here are the images. All edited in Darktable 4.7 as mentioned.

For the best image quality, I would look at each of these in full screen by clicking on them, it really makes a difference!

After a bad year last year, where for the middle to latter half I was not well, this year I am feeling fresh and revived as I take on photography for myself, and if others want to tag along they can, and they will be most welcomed. I think I have learned, that pandering to please others constantly gets you absolutely nowhere, and this year I do not want to be ill again.

Here is a great poster than a friend (Lee) who joins the meets made for us after the meet. I hope you like it. Don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe!

    1. I never use any photo editing program to print, only ever my printer software, as it’s fine tuned for that printer

Thank you very much as always. I’m not a huge fan of Affinity, I just don’t find it intuitive like everything else, and I’ve tried to like it over the years!

      1. Thanks Mark, I agree with Affinity it’s a struggle… I’ve always Printed via editing S/W as Use ICC Profiles for paper. Think it’s time I have a Good sort out and change…If you have any advice always welcome. Thanks again for Fab Site 🙂

      2. Thankfully my HP software can take ICC profiles, plus has a much better selection of adjustments than the usual inbuilt printer options in software. I’ve not used other printers in years, so not sure if they do/don’t support this too.

I print a heck of a lot, usually anything A4 and under at home, and anything above I send off for, as prices can be quite reasonable these days.

Sorry for my inconsistent activity on Instagram, I don’t tend to use it as much as I should, but do try and catch up!

  2. I’m Using Canon Pro10 & Ip8750 ….I wanted HP but I couldn’t find a HP that would handle B&W as that’s my thing (Sorry)… I really need to sort all My setup out really 😔… No need to apologise about Instagram I’m still dithering about I started on Vero as it’s Very Photography based …but still not really into the social media thing… probably I should just do my own site and see what happens.
Cheers for inspirations and ideas 💡

    1. Half of my prints are black and white (the wife like the boys portraits converted) with my HP, not had an issue, but there are so many different printer options!

I have stopped using Vero. I started promisinglyb using it, but what with Twitter, Facebook (my main output) and Instagram, I have given up! 🤣

Talk soon. If you’re on Facebook, feel free to add me.

      2. It’s a HP Instant Ink printer, my second in a decade and between my photography and my wife’s craft business, it’s absolutely been abused every month with hundreds of prints.
