We have been waiting for the right weather to get out and try different lenses that I have, and today the weather was perfect for taking my boys out with the Nikon Z6ii and the Nikkor 50mm F/1.8 AF-S lens. They are perfect subjects as they do not keep still long, so they really tested the Z6ii autofocus!
I was very impressed with the results too. I took around 120 images, and only one missed focus, and that was totally my fault and I knew straight away that I had missed its focus. I had been thinking about selling this lens and getting the Z lens version, but after this shoot, I can say that I am more than happy with its performance. It is pin sharp, and I have uploaded larger files than normal so you can inspect them in detail.
Here are the shots of my boys, I hope you ike these few I have selected.

And while I was out, I took four images of the surrounding landscape too.

All images are the raw files, which were simply edited in ON1 Photo Raw 2024 Max using the Brilliance AI button, which is basically a quick adjustments for exposure, highlights and shadows. No other editeding such as my usual dodging/burning/flares, other than the 5:4 crop took place, and other than very small differences, these are almost identical to the Standard colour profile that the images were taken using.
My early impressions of the camera, the lens and full frame in general has been an amazing experience. It has been over a decade since I shot full frame last, and I forgot how magnificent it really is. My last video (in my last blog update) seemed to have gone viral, with over 2.2k views in its first 3 days with my announcement that I had left Fujifilm for Nikon. I’m expecting my next video which I have planned to do similar as it is titled “5 things you’ll instantly notice when moving from Fujifilm X series to Nikon Z full frame cameras.” There will be a blog update with this new video as soon as it is up!
In the mean time, I hope that you like the images. All EXIF data is within them, so feel free to take look. As always, comments are much appreciated.
Thank you all as always.

Great photos Mark, especially in the portraits you see the advantages of the full frame. I’m already looking forward to your next video. Small note, it may be due to my internet connection, but could it be that your photos have a lot of MB, due to lower compression? In any case, it is not the fault of the pixels, but I did have difficulty loading the photos – slow – but it could well be due to my connection.
Annyway, great shots!

I noticed they were slowing loading, I think it’s because they were 3000px long side instead of the usual 1200px long side.
Thank you very much Marc 🙏

Hey Mark, no, the pixels aren’t a problem, I’ve also used 3000px and larger – but I do use 70% compression, which makes them around 1MB or less. It is MB that affects transmission, not the pixels – you also see this with 4K video on your computer, the resolution is much higher, but the image packets are smaller, making the image smooth.
