Black And White Edits Of The Rosie Portrait Shoot

If you remember my last blog, I shared images of an hour long portrait shoot with our model Rosie. This blog is look at the black and white edits of the shoot. The black and white edits always take me a bit longer, as I like to get a lot more contrast out of the light in black and white images. I also use Darktable for these images, and I have come up with a regular editing routine for the style I am after.

For more information on the equipment used please refer to my first blog in this series.

I hope you like these black and white edits. I am thinking about doing a tutorial on how I achieve this look using Darktable… Only time will tell! As always, if you like what you see, please like, comment and if you have not already, please subscribe.

  1. Hey Mark, really beautiful edits! Regarding the technique with Darktable, I think you might find some interested people for that. My favorites are especially numbers 7 and 8. However, compared to your last male model, this one—at least for me personally—is more of a color model to my taste. And taste is very personal, so I might be completely off, and most people might see it the other way around. Either way, a stunning series, and so far, in my opinion, your best-posing female model yet.

    1. Thank you Marc. Yes, this model was more of a “colour” model, but ironically she prefers black and white, so these were requested by her. Personally I think I hit the nail on the head with the colour grading on her colour edits.

I will have to try and find some time for a little tutorial on Darktable for this kind of portrait.

      Enjoy your week!
