As many of you know from pervious posts, or from just knowing me, I have been on the lookout for a small, compact camera to take with me wherever I go. I had set my mind on a Ricoh GR IV, and then a Fuji X-M5, and then a friend of mine mentioned a camera I already own, that I was using with no issues. My pocketable everyday camera has been with me all along, and in all honesty, it is more than up to the job of what I need it to do.

The Panasonic Lumix FS10 is actually a camera from way back in 2010. It has a CCD sensor with a zoom lens with the equivalent of 28-140mm full frame (not as long a reach as my little Casio, but that camera is having issues). At 12.1 megapixels, it is more than enough for everyday use, and even for printing images. It is fast to switch on and get ready for a photo, it stores thousands of photos, even on the smallest SD card and the images just look cool!
The camera only shoots jpeg, but that is not a problem so with its tiny (6mm x 4.5mm) sensor, low light is not great, but it has an amazing flash that fives you that 2000’s vibe when used. I used the camera in vibrant mode which I feel is the best of all the profiles it has to offer.

All the images are just resized, but other than that untouched. There is just something more organic to them than mobile phone images (which are always AI processed these days). And of course, using the camera is so easy, and all one handed. Just switch on, point and shoot! No viewfinder, only a 2.7″ back LCD screen, but again, it really does not matter.
So that has saved me £1200! Obviously this is not an aps-c sensor, and obviously the images should not look as good as a Ricoh or Fuji, but for the purpose I wanted to get one of those camera’s, this camera works perfectly!
I actually took some amazing pictures with it previously when I shared this blog, this blog, this blog, and many more!
Sometimes, it is the little things said by friends, that remind you that your money can be spent better elsewhere as you already have a tool for the job!
My home page has some stunning images that you will only see on there and Instagram! Take a look!

Love this, Mark. Funny how we can spend weeks hunting for the “perfect pocket camera”, while the right one is already sitting in a drawer waiting to be used. Your FS10 shots have that bit of character modern phones tend to flatten out.
And saving £1200 just by realising you already had what you needed… that’s a win in my book. A good reminder that the best camera is often the one that simply makes you enjoy taking the shot.
Great write-up. Looking forward to the next one.
