My Birthday Week On “Film”: Flashback (Part 1)

Today, February 25th, is my 56th birthday. I have spent the week extensively testing out a new disposable “film” camera. It has been a joy, and I cannot wait to get my full review up on this incredible new camera.

I have run 5 rolls of film through the new camera, using Classic, Mono, Beta and Cine film stocks. The Flashback One35 V2 camera is a non-disposable “film” camera that takes digital photographs that look like film. More specifically though, the camera looks, feels and acts like a film camera. It is THE closest I have ever got to feeling like I am shooting film.

The above images are by far my favourite images from this camera. They look like they were taken by a disposable film camera, and these cameras are of course for everyday occasions like taking family photos.

Last night we had a joint birthday party, for my mothers birthday which was on Monday, and my birthday. I decided to try the FlashbackCine look for these photographs.

As you can see, these have a very different look, now I am looking at them on the bigger screen I quite like the look! It is not film-like, like the Classic setting, but it has a look.

I will share examples of all the looks of the camera in the up-coming in-depth review, but I know I will be using the Classic setting from now on.

I have been looking for that film-like experience for a long time now, since I stopped shooting film in around 2020, and honestly, although we can get a similar look using our Fujifilm and Nikon ZF cameras, the experience was always missing. Now, with the Flashback camera, you have to roll on the film with the winder, decide if you need the flash on or off with the slider, look through the little glass viewfinder and then its the “clunk” of the shutter button. Plus you only have 27 exposures before you have to offload the film to get it developed (in an app).

As you can see, you can accidently get your fingers in the way! So that is even more like using a disposable film camera!

Anyway, there is a lot more to come! I will be uploading a selection of images from this “film” camera to my Our Life On Film website, so keep an eye there in the future.
