For us here in South Wales, Porthcawl has always been an area that has attracted visitors because of its funfair and beautiful beach and seafront. However, the council decided a while ago to sell off the land of the funfair and stalls, to build even more houses. What I have captured here is the start of the end of an area that was once driven by holiday makers enjoying the area.
Although my Nikon was armed with the Tamron 16-30mm, I also had chance to use the Nikkor Z24-200mm lens for a few hours, which I enjoyed using. It is sad to see much of the signage removed, workmen removing electrics, and feeling the general feel of disappointment in the air as another famous place turns into a generic town.

It is always sad doing these kind of shoots, as we know that in the coming months, the character of the area will be replaced with modern boredom. Thankfully, the area does have some nice seafront area, but it was the people and the stories that we could create by capturing images of them that will really be missed.

Hey Mark, that’s a pity for you guys. I can imagine it will definitely be missed. Hopefully something new will come in its place along that stretch of the coast. If they end up building apartments there, the ground floors might still be used for shops or cafés. It would be a real missed opportunity not to include a few restaurants or tourist-oriented places in such a great location.

Fingers crossed they do something other than the planned housing they have talked about. It was/is such a beautiful area and the fair brings in so much money to the area.

These touristy places are fun to see in the off season Mark. No crowds, no hoopla and no beautiful sunny weather. They are almost dystopian in their appearance. Looks like a great outing. Allan
