I have been looking for a simple solution for data transfer that covers all the options I need when out and about with my camera, and stumbled across this little device that does it all! Today we look at the Type-C 4-in-1 multifunctional OTG adaptor!
“What is it?“
The Type-C 4-in-1 multifunctional OTG adaptor is a plug-in USB-C adaptor that allows you to transfer data back and forth from your phone (or other USB-C device, such as a tablet or computer) and use other accessories if needed.
It allows you to plug in the adaptor, and then use it with SD cards, micro-SD cards, standard USB and micro USB. This covers everything I need it to day, especially as I have only bought it to use in the field, at weddings, events and portrait shoots as well as for future use when out with a portable printer.

“Potential Uses For A Photographer…“
Quite often I am asked for an image from the camera by a client, or someone I am out with and the only way to usually do that is via the camera app. Most of you know, camera apps can be flaky even at the best of times, and by the time you connect everything up, many minutes have passed… And that is IF the app connects at all on! Even then, camera apps do not allow transfer of raw files, and even if they did, transfer speeds are slow and cumbersome.
The Type-C 4-in-1 multifunctional OTG adaptor lets you bypass this the old-fashioned way and speeds up the workflow considerably. Plug in the adaptor to the bottom of your phone, get out the SD or micro-SD card from your camera, and slot the card into the adaptor. Within seconds, you can use your phone like a computer with its advanced file explorers and download the image or images you need (both raw or jpeg!) do a quick crop and edit in Snapseed and then send the image over to the person sitting next to you!
There are endless other uses of course for a photographer;
- Transfer images from your card straight to your phone to send across to your client instantly.
- Once transferred you can use your mobile or Instax printer apps and print out on the spot!
- Offload all your images onto your phone and back them straight up to your cloud storage for important backups.
- Plug in a USB stick or external hard drive and transfer all the images directly from your camera’s SD card straight onto that backup option.
“Should you get one?“
This is something I always wish I had had, and it popped up when I was browsing not so long ago so I just bought it. If like me you want to do any of those things listed above, or just want to offload all your photos from your phone onto another device quickly, then it is a no brainer!
The model I bought is just USB B speeds, but that is still faster than using your cameras app and the transfer speed of Bluetooth. I paid around £3.50 for it on Temu, so at that price you can buy multiple devices, or devices that fit your particular needs.
As something to add to your camera bag, it takes up little to no room and most importantly, it just works! And it has a flashy little blue light to tell you it is transferring and working!
