I have six great lenses that cover all the bases. The Fujifilm XF18-135mm, XC15-45mm and XC50-230mm, as well as the Viltrox 23mm F/1.4, TTArtisan 7.5mm F/2 fisheye and TTArtisan 40mm F/2.8 macro.
Each lens has a specific use, the 18-135mm a general all purpose weather resistant walk around lens, the 15-45 a nice compact lens for landscapes, towns and architecture, the 50-230 for landscapes and wildlife, the 23mm for general use and low light (and it’s my favourite focal length), the 7.5mm for architecture, street and landscape and of course the 40mm macro for macro close-up work.
So… What is the dilemma?
Firstly, I don’t want anymore lenses. I told myself when switching to Fujifilm that I would keep my gear to a minimum. I think I have one or two too many with six, but they do serve a purpose and all get used.
Secondly, my much loved XC15-45mm. Man, I love the output in that lens, and the quality. It’s pin sharp and has never let me down in any situation. It’s so light and compact, it’s almost perfect. But it’s the “almost” part that has had me thinking.
Viltrox are finally releasing the 13mm F/1.4. It’s a lens I’ve been thinking about for a while. I primarily use my 15-45mm at 15mm, as I hate the zoom mechanism (that’s the “almost” part stopping it from being perfect), so this could be the perfect swap. Also, that F/1.4 aperture gives me so much more light to work with! Ideal for landscape and most importantly indoor photography.
Assuming the Viltrox 13mm is the same size as the 23mm that I own, I’ll be more than happy to trade in the 15-45mm and enjoy all the benefits a prime lens brings. Or will I???
Until that time… I’ll keep on thinking about this strange dilemma! Let me know what you think, and keeping both lenses is not an option!

If I could do it again with my X T20 I might go with an X T3 and just 2 lenses. 16-80 f4 and the 70-300. I have to admit that when we travelled in the early 2k’s doing riverboat cruises I would still like to use an18-135 as it is not possible to move closer but likely I could have gotten the same images or most of the same with the other two lenses. I just hate changing lenses. I still keep the 18-135 and have other lenses too simply because I purchased them before the two I would have as “go-to” just were not created at the time.

I really disliked the 16-80mm and I replaced it with to 18-135mm which I find you be a much better lens in every department.

Hey Mark, here’s my point of view on the problem,
I listened carefully to your response to my comment in the riverside walk article – a 13mm wide-angle lens is indeed a world of difference from the 16mm I suggested, in that respect it is also the same with the 15mm on the XC15-45.
I hate the electric zoom too, and by the way I have it for sale for a few weeks now.
Honestly, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to exchange the XC 15-45mm for another lens,
no matter how sharp it is – it also starts from f3.5, which also gives fewer options.
Keep in mind that the Viltrox 13mm will be slightly larger and heavier than your 23mm.
The filter size of the viltrox 23mm is 52mm, at https://www.fujirumors.com/tag/viltrox-13mm-f-1-4/ it states that the 13mm will have a 67mm filter thread.
Personally I don’t find that a problem, the XF18-135 also has a 67mm thread, and I don’t think it’s too big to put in a jacket pocket as a second lens.
Finally, I myself have the Samsung 12mm, and I love that angle of view – and now I’m a bit jealous of the Viltrox 13mm, because I know it will be better. Maybe I should put it up for sale too 🙂
