Porthcawl – A Day Of Two Halves!

Well, we were not expecting Porthcawl to be the way it was. We arrived in rain and gale force winds, and the day didn’t look promising. However, the weather forecast was that it was going to brighten up an hour or so after started, and thankfully it did! It means that I have a diverse range of photographs to share, and a video I am quite proud of when you consider the conditions we were shooting in!

Armed with just the Fujifilm X-T3 and Viltrox 23mm F/1,4 lens, I knew I wanted something different from this visit. Porthcawl is a stunning place to visit, however, as can be seen by some of the early footage, it is undergoing some regeneration along the promenade which hopefully will be complete before the visitor’s season to the area.

This video is shorter than normal, but I didn’t manage to get much footage because of the weather. I have fine-tuned the format, so you will see more photos, longer conversation and I even have a camera man during part of it! All part of the plan to improve. Watch it, like it, subscribe and comment on YouTube, as it really helps me.

The images from the main part of the meet are here. They were horizon corrected and had some colour grading and a border applied. I actually attempted to edit these a number of times before settling on a scheme which I think fixed the mood of the day.#

Once the meet was almost over, we ventured over to the fair ground area of Porthcawl, and the sun had came out so I knew I wanted something different. This time I wanted to get everything done in camera, and I just knew it was perfect for my Vintage Summer recipe that I developed last year. Here are the images, only borders were added and no colour changes (differences in colour is due to shooting at different exposure values in camera).

I may be a bit bias, but I love the look of these images straight from camera! They are simply stunning and my hard work creating the recipe really paid off as it achieved what I wanted it to achieve.

I hope you all enjoyed. Please call back fore more very soon!

  1. Perhaps the conditions were worse, but it certainly doesn’t show in the quality of the video.
The reporter (MGA) is getting better and better, now there is even a cameraman available – impressive !
The second series of photos with the vintage summer recipe are indeed great – I will write something about those great recipes soon.
    Good job Mark !
