Autumn Visit To The City

Swansea is a great place to visit, and in autumn, some of the colours can be spectacular. I ventured out and led a group of 23 of use at Swansea’s Marina area and we photographed the delights of the city. There is always some fantastic to photograph there, and this visit certainly didn’t disappoint.

I wanted to travel extremely light as I knew I would be busy chatting to the people who attended my weekly event, plus I wanted to push myself in an area I had recently photographed. What better way than to just bring the Olympus Pen E-PL8 along with the 17mm prime lens. Photographing the area in a near enough 35mm equivalent was something I truly have been wanting to do for a while. And here are my results.

Although I was more than happy with the jpeg images I took (I am falling in love with the Olympus colour science of jpeg images!), I knew, because of the fantastic weather, that I wanted to use my “Futureist” Style that I have developed for Darktable on the Olympus raw files. I just love the way it looks on sunny days!

A big tip to those who use Darktable. If the sky is white, grey or blown out. Use a first instance in the colour zones of “Grey Skies To Blue” and then use a second instance for “Futureist”. It works wonders, and there are 3 images above where I used this technique!

So, there we have it! Another fine photography meet, in lovely autumnal weather! As a bonus, here is a phone image frim inside the bridge which has been edited, taken from the day before where it was a lot quieter and didn’t have people on it.

An image from my phone of inside the bridge. Edited in Snapseed

Thank you all for reading. It means a lot.

  1. Hey Mark!
That you love the Olympus colors does not surprise me,
I myself wrote today, that I rarely edit raw files now that I work with Olympus.
The photos from camera are that great !
But, the photo from your phone is also fantastic !
I love the contrast and shadows & light inside the bridge !

    1. Thank you very much Marc. Yes, I think for general photos the colours are wonderful. All the fuss people make about Fuji colours (which I really like), but Olympus colour science is amazing too!
