A Climb To The Top Of Drummau Mountain

To say this was one of the best days I’ve had, and how proud I was of those who took part is an understatement. Drummau Mountain is a 892 foot mountain at the heart of Neath, and is surrounded by beautiful forest. We walked from the very bottom, along the winding roads up to an ancient standing stone known as Carreg Bica. 13 of us made it to the top, many of the group over 60 years of age.

I took this opportunity to do some filing and make a vlog of the journey. This can be found below, and below that you’ll find the photographs so you can view them in more detail.

I took my Fujifilm X-T3 with the 50-230mm lens, along with the Olympus E-PL8 and 14-42mm lens. All the images were edited from raw in Darktable, using my new “Natural Look” DT Style that I have developed. Its been designed to keep the colours of the camera, with just slight tweaks to the reds, giving a much more natural look.

We don’t take enough selfies as a group, but on this occasion, it was a must! Here we have most of the days group. There were two missing, who were exploring the area.

We had a fantastic day, and I hope you get to watch the video and relive the journey. Autumn may be passing us by, but there was still amazing colour all around us. At the top of the mountain it was like walking into a Windows wallpaper! Green hills, blue skies, as captured in one of the images above.

  1. It was an excellent “stroll” and has ticked another one off my bucket list! With all the group making it to the top it was easy to just follow along, I wouldn’t have made it otherwise. Well done Mark for getting the weather right as well!

    1. Thank you Marc. Funny enough, the music is always the last thing I add, as I need to see how the video “feels” before adding it. I just knew i wanted piano music for this video!

  3. Hi Mark

What a beautiful video. it’s been many years since i was on that mountain. the views are spectacular with Williams Quarry nearby.

My family used to live on the one side of the mountain overlooking Bryncoch and Neath

I was a about 12 when we moved there and have always loved that part of the world. i’m now into my early 70’s but i do remember i did walk up there just the once when i was passing through that part of the world about twenty years ago. I felt so emotional the memories just came flooding back . That you for sharing the video i’m now living in a different country but Wales is my home and will always be in my blood.

      1. Well well

I know longford very well and way back in the late 60’s i knew the Buffton family who lived just as you entered the Longford estate from the Duffryn church side. i remember the beautiful little thatched cottage on the sharp bend just before you turn into Longford.

So many memories. i also went to the school there for a short time but finished my school years at Cadoxton too. I remember the cinema in Neath and much much more. I love the Neath valleys

I have a younger brother who lives in Skewen i haven’t seen him for years. a sister who lives in the town and another sister living in Ely Cardiff.

Thank you so much Mark for getting back to me…Warm wishes to you and your family

        and your group.
