Two Sunsets In August

It has been a long time since I went out with the Fujifilm X-T3 and decided to share images that are straight from camera. I had a lot of images to potentially edit from two nights of fantastic sunsets at Aberavon Beach, and I edited a few of them in Darktable. However, for this blog, I was going to post those images, but when I looked at the jpeg straight from camera images, I was so impressed, I thought I would share them with you.

For a complete change, a week or so ago, I changed my default Fujifilm film simulation, from Classic Chrome, to Pro Neg High, with the colour turned to +4, and the highlights and shadows set to -1. This was the first time I had used this particular in-built simulation during a sunset, and I was really happy with the results. The only thing that I have done with these images is do any straightening that may have needed doing, and crop to my now favourite 5:4 aspect ratio. That is it, nothing else.

Of course, as always you can click on each image and see it in full screen, this will also give you the full EXIF data should you need it. I used the Fujifilm X-T3 along with the XF16-80mm lens. I did not realise just how good and versatile this lens really is! And it is so very sharp!

  1. After the recent rain showers, some better weather could come along, and that can be seen here, clear sky and the sunsets are great Mark, I especially love number 7 with the sunstars. I think with the 16-80mm you have a great lens, a range that you can use just about anywhere, very versatile.
    The very best to you.

  2. I love these photos Mark, but they are all evening shots, when the sun was low and the light warm and soft! What JPEG sim/settings do you recommend for midday shots, when the sun is high, and the light harsh and contrasty?

    1. I was using Classic Chrome (colour+4, highlight/shadows -2) for all my daytime shots which I think looks really nice. However, I want to do more with Pro Neg High (colour +4, highlight/shadows -1)
