Computer Issues Stop Play

For some strange reason my new laptop (11 months old now) has a strange issue. It does not affect everyday operation as such, but my computer will be going for repair in the coming days. It is only because it is Easter weekend that I currently still have use of the computer.

It is surprising how much you rely on computers, so I am not sure how many blogs I will be doing in the coming weeks until the issue is fixed. What is the issue? Well, I would not have noticed if I was always plugged into a power point, or always on battery. I have tried everything to remedy the situation, but to no avail (including new bios updates, windows updates, drivers and so much more!)

The issue… When the computer is on it runs perfectly, but if, while turned on, you either plug in, or unplug the power lead, the computer CPU frequency drops to 1% power and will not return to normal levels (be it normal battery level CPU usage or on power battery levels) without restarting the computer.

I could obviously just leave it plugged in forever, but it is under warranty and I want it working properly! So until then, my updates may be intermittent, and of course I may have trouble getting my images off my camera quickly and easily.

  1. Do you have and SD card on your phone for image storage? Much room on it? How big a card? Would you be taking so many images that they would not fit on a 356 GB SD card?

Do you use any online storage? If not have you considered using Dropbox and uploading from your phone or maybe even directly from the camera as you should be able to d/d between the phone and the camera if the camera can see the phone. I don’t know as I have not tried that as I am computer dependent. Just tossing out ideas in case one sticks.

To me a phone is something to talk on lol.

Know how you feel about losing the use of the computer. I think back almost 30 years and now wonder how I lived without the computer. Best of luck at finding a solution.

BTW I hope you BU BU BU and I do mean triple BU. I have an internal 4TB doing daily BU with two external 4 TB — one doing a BU on the first and one on the 15th and this is for a retired photographer. If I was still working, my business system would not even be connected to the internet so that important things would be further isolated.

    1. Thank you. Yeah, I haven’t tried with this camera to see if I can transfer raw files, although I can transfer jpegs.
My camera luckily has 2 card slots (a 64GB CFExpress I use for raw and 32GB SD I use for jpeg) so I guess it won’t hurt to leave them on the card until the computer gets back.
And I do back up. I don’t store any images or files on my laptop apart from the week’s I am editing. I save images straight away to my network drive (3TB) and external drives (3TB) and Google Photos/documents.
I’m sure I’ll get a blog up on how I cope! Thanks Murray, talk soon.
