Continuation – A Black And White Model Shoot With Mark

Following on from yesterdays post where I shared with you images from a photoshoot with our model Mark, today, after numerous requests, I am sharing black and white edits of different images from the shoot.

To give some perspective, I took 125 images over a two hour period, and I posted 21 images yesterday, and today I am sharing 7 more images. This time they were edited into a black and white style. Of course, it is not just a matter of converting a coloured image into black and white, I used various dodge and burn techniques, as well as adjusting the brightness of different parts of the image etc.

Here are my black and white images.

I hope you like these images! I am usually not a fan of black and white, but I do like these! Let me know what you think!

  1. If I may give my humble opinion, personally—although I’m not usually a B&W fan—these are far better than yesterday’s.

I even wonder how they’d look with that classic ‘Kodak postcard’ vibe from the ’60s. The composition, lighting, and of course, the model are all excellent – no doubt about the photos themselves, they are all beautiful.

I think there’s a reason modern colors don’t quite fit here. The model has a strong retro look, the background doesn’t immediately reveal a modern setting, but the atmosphere from the previous series doesn’t come through as well in today’s color—it’s hard to explain.

Either way, in this case, I think B&W works so much better!

Hope you don’t mind my opinion Mark.

    1. Thank you Marc. These images were edited very differently and more artistically than the colour edits. I dodged and burned the light much more to get the contrast etc in the light.

I do like them, but I still prefer the colour. I will have to do some artistic colour edits and dodge and burn the light on them too. But you are right, the monochrome really fits the style and period that the model is creating.

You never know, I might do more black and white edits in the future!

Have a good weekend Marc, and thank you for the wonderful feedback.
