Straight From The Nikon ZF – Imogen Portraits (Part 1: Unedited)

Today we had a great photoshoot with a model I have used before named Imogen. Before I start editing her images to be meet my usual high standard, I thought I would share some straight out of camera images using two recipes I have made for the Nikon System.

The black and white images are my “MGA LeicaMono” recipe, while the colour images are my “MGA Nostalgic” recipe. All images are straight from camera, no editing at all, except a crop to 5:4 and a frame added.

For the LeicaMono images, I used the Nikon ZF with the Nikon 35mm F/1.4 lens along with the new tiny IM22 manual flash. I wanted to recreate a 2000s vibe, and also push the exposure as high as I could without blowing out any highlights to create this look.

For the colour images, I used the same camera setup, but also used the Godox IM22, TT685 and AD200 (depending on the image). I really love the look of these images, and I feel they are VERY filmic!

Let me know what you think! Part 2 will include fully edited raw files from the day.

  1. Excellent shots for straight out of the camera, Mark. It shows the importance of getting the composition and settings correct from the beginning, making post production editing simpler or not required. Have a great Monday. Allan

    1. Thank you Mark. Yes I pushed the exposure until just before it was about to get over-exposed (everything is in gamut and nothing is over-exposed”, for a bright, airy, vintage look. It was hard work getting it right in camera, but it worked!

I’m currently editing the files as “normal ” now, but feel that I love the sooc images much more!
