Deer… Deer… Deer

It is that time of year again where the deer are running wild in the grasslands of South Wales, and a visit to Margam just had to be done! Although my aim was to just capture some deer today, I captured a few other things too. The weather was perfect, not too hot, not too cold. Visibility was perfect, and the deer played ball and were in a position where we could sneak up on them.

Today it was my workhorse Nikon Z6ii and my Tamron Z90mm F/2.8 macro, along with my Tamron Z150-500mm F/5-6.3 lenses. All images are straight from camera, with just crops where needed. No other corrections were made to the images.

There were not many birds about today, and thanks to the Nikon’s great autofocus, I just raised the camera at the ducks in the air and my burst had every shot in focus, on the subject! Nikon cameras have always had great autofocus, although, for some reason YouTubers like to say otherwise (it is probably because Canon and Sony pay them more for reviews!)

I was lucky to find a nice mushroom, amongst all the eaten and walked on mushrooms that we came across. The first two images were on my camera from yesterday, but they fit in with the theme.

Overall, a great two-hours out and about, finished off with a nice drink in the café with my mate Thomas who was with me.

  1. Great shots, Mark – looks like you had the perfect weather and a fine day out! The deer really played along, and that mushroom find was a nice bonus. Glad you could enjoy it with Thomas and finish off at the café. Bit jealous I couldn’t join you at the pub – a day in nature finished with a drink is always the best combo. Great ! All the best, Marc.
