Brecon, in the middle of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales is a historical garrison town. Home to the infamous South Wales Borderers, 24th Foot Regiment that took part at Rorkes Drift in 1879 (which was made famous by the film “Zulu”). It’s a beautiful town, with a cathedral, canal, ancient and modern buildings and a charm all of it’s own. It was quite refreshing to go out and photograph here, as I’ve never actually been to Brecon seriously taking photos with the camera before.
Armed with the Fujifilm X-T3 and XC15-45mm, I went out and enjoyed. Some people may ask why I didn’t use the 18-135mm, and the honest truth is that I just love the little 15-45mm for general street work. It’s nice and wide, plus just long enough for photographs on the street.
I edited the raw files with DXO PhotoLab 5 (yes! I’ve started to edit raw files more, and that’s because DXO PhotoLab is just so damn good!). The edits are based on Fujfilm Classic Negative film simulation with tweaks.
All EXIF data is in the images as always, and if you look at the images inside the cathedral, you’ll see that I was using ISO3200 and ISO6400. I was more than blown away by the performance of the X-T3 in these conditions and using those high ISOs. This camera just keeps on giving and exceeding my expectations. My only regret for the day was that I did not have my TTArtisan 7.5mm fisheye with me (stupidly I removed it from my bag that morning before leaving).
I hope you enjoy these images, I am actually quite proud of them. Also, over the last couple of posts, you may have noticed I have changed the way I’m displaying the images, as rather than side-by-side in an organised fashion, they are more tiled, hopefully making it more enjoyable to view the images.

One Camera One Lens 
Very nice! I really like the Brecon Tap shot… the woman’s clothing matches the frame of the windows, her hair balances the sign and the picnic tables in tone, and her being framed in mid-Stride in the doorway. Great capture.
You had some great subjects to work with and you made the most of it.

I love that row house building in your first image with those lovely blue doors and stone.
I enjoyed seeing the writing on the window at the general store…ironmongery really caught my eye. I’m sure I’ve never seen that written or used before now!
The cathedral is gorgeous! I am thinking that’s where you wanted to use the fisheye lens. 😀

The X-T3 surprises me so often. I shoot with photographers using other cameras, from micro 4/3 to full frame, and the Fujis always give amazing results.

I’ve been really happy with it and my long lens, but I don’t love the zoom I bought for my “everything else” lens. I bought the 16-80mm and now think I should have saved a bit more and bought the 16-55mm for the better optics.

I’ve used all those, but went with the 18-135mm which is just amazing as an everyday lens. It’s sharp, really fast autofocus and gives me everything I ever wanted from those other lenses (and if I really have to go wide the 15-45 is tiny to keep in the bag).

you are talking about raw files and some adjustments… in post production or on camera. and finally, in raw see no longer use similes…

These image are edited raw files in DXO PhotoLab 5 yes, all performed on the computer. I still use simulations, I just decided to edit the raw files on this occasion. Thanks.

thank you for these instructions. it’s true that I always hesitate between raw and jpeg. it seems to me that we have more freedom with the raw but i love at least two of the vis recipes mga chrime classic plus and kodachrome v2.
