Saint Fagans Museum With A Vintage Camera, A Fujifilm And Almost An Olympus! Plus learning that F/1.4 is important!

I had a lot planned for the visit to Saint Fagans living museum in Cardiff, Wales. I had three cameras with me, and a plan in my head, however, after one image, my Olympus run out of batteries! It just goes to show, don’t trust just a quick look at a battery meter of a camera that has not been used in a week! However, that did force me to use the Nikon P50 for much more than I was going to use it. The Fujifilm was used for wide shots with the VIltrox 13mm lens.

Saint Fagans museum in Cardiff is an open-air museum that showcases the historical lifestyle, culture and architecture of Wales. You can explore over 40 original buildings from different periods and regions, such as a Victorian school, a medieval church and a Celtic village. You can also enjoy interactive exhibits, craft demonstrations and special events throughout the year. Saint Fagans museum is free to enter and open daily from 10am to 5pm. It’s a great place to learn about Welsh history and heritage in a beautiful setting.

Anyway, here are the images. This first batch is the straight from camera images from the Nikon P50. It was a grey and cold day, not what we were expecting at all! But it was a lot of fun.

Here are the Fujifilm files, edited from raw in ON1 Photo Raw 2023.5. This was using the already mentioned Viltrox 13mm F/1.4 lens.

Not a bad selection of images, although I would have liked nicer weather! We did miss a few attractions at Saint Fagans, but we have been there before, so not all is lost. One thing to note is that there is no lighting in the interior of the majority of these buildings, so we were photographing in almost pitch black. My friend was really struggling with his Fuji X-T2 and 10-24mm lens, which is only an F/4 aperture. The Viltrox 13mm F/1.4 meant that I could happily shoot in those conditions, without using a flash. There was no room for tripods, so handheld was the only option!

So, another week of photographs, and my very favourite from the day out was actually this one. The very first image I took on the day.
