Penarth Pier And Cardiff Bay

Today was the first day out with the camera since I was ill, and I wanted to take it easy. My friend David and myself decided to head East and visit Penarth Pier and Cardiff Bay. Although the weather was not perfect, it gave us an opportunity to scout the area and take some people and architecture images.

I only took my Nikon Z6ii and the Z24-70 lens, and I found that it did a stellar job of capturing the day. At first, I was going to do all black and white edits, however, something inside me decided that a more analogue look was needed, and so along with the basic edits, I used Kodak Ultra Colour 100 from my Kodakified LUT pack.

I think the editing turned an otherwise gloomy day into something a bit special. Looking at the images now, I am very happy with the results! Let me know what you think.

  1. Hey Mark,

The pier and its surroundings were definitely a great choice. Whether sunnier weather would’ve improved your photos, I’m not so sure—it would’ve created a different mood, but the atmosphere you captured here is so good, it’s hard to imagine it being better. Your LUT choice fits perfectly, enhancing the reds and browns beautifully. This really stands out in the photos of the pier deck, the reddish-brown buildings, and the occasional red accents from passersby. A truly successful shoot, in my opinion!

    All the best,
    Marc
