A Special Photoshoot With Two Wonderful Models

It is not often that I get to do a “real” photoshoot with my boys, so I made the most of today. I had planned this for a long time, originally just with my eldest Samuel, but this morning George wanted to come along, so of course I could not say no!

The idea was simple, use a fisheye lens along with my Z6ii for some unique perspectives and some pretty close shots to enhance that look. These images are resized raw files, with basic adjustments in Darktable, and where needed a final tweak in Photoscape X Pro (usually just a quick cloning of rubbish).

This shoot lays the foundation for a female model shoot that I have in my head, and I think it will be amazing based on these images! Anyway, here are the images.

I used a Nikon Z6ii with the TTArtisan 11mm fisheye manual focus lens along with my Godox TT350 for extra lighting. Although it was an extremely sunny (and HOT!) day, I shot into the sun 100% of the times to stop the boys squinting, so the TT350 filled in the light nicely! That is the importance of lighting, and something I honestly did not realise made much of a difference until I spent so much time shooting portraits!

I’ve also learned that when something is moving, just keep the shutter speed a little slower, so that it actually looks like it is moving, and not just frozen in the air (when applicable).

So there we have it! I hope you like these. Don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe!

  1. Great series, Mark! I can see you were clearly chasing those wild effects—but now I’m curious: what if you set the horizon to zero degrees? Bet they’d still look fantastic. Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you Marc.

Yes, you can make the horizon pretty straight that way if you want to shoot landscapes and architecture, and then of course you can then de-dish it!

I have a shoot with a female model soon that I’ll be using this lens for, so that will be fun!
