Today was a day to just pop out and look for something new to photograph. As it happens, I visited Ystragynlais for it’s historic iron work ruins, as well as a huge waterfall in Hendryd. I would like to share the monochrome images from the ruins, as I was not really happy with the waterfall images (as I rarely am with waterfalls of this size). The waterfall images can be found on my photography Facebook page).
I decided to take my Nikon ZF with me today, along with the Tamron 16-30mm lens. I edited the images in Luminar Neo, using my current technique I use for portraits, and I decided to go fully monochrome for them.

I am really happy with these photographs, and so far, from the few shoots I have done with the Tamron lens, I am more than happy with it!
I hope you enjoyed the images, please feel free to leave feedback in the comments.

Beautiful black-and-white series, Mark ! very nice processing as well. I’m always a little surprised when I see black-and-white photographs these days, especially because I’m not really a fan of the genre, and yet they often turn out to be stunning. These are no exception. I had a closer look at the waterfalls too and actually found them quite beautiful – they’re probably a very rewarding subject for black and white as well. The only thing, and this is very personal, is that the waterfalls feel framed quite tightly; most waterfalls I’ve seen before are photographed from a bit farther away, and in my humble opinion that often lets them breathe a little more. That said, they’re beautiful all the same.
Have a great day,
Marc.

Thank you Marc. It was a nice change edit in black and white, and I used the same technique on these that I do on my portraits.
The waterfall was really hard to photograph, most of the images were at 16mm, but it is within a fairly tight space..
Thank you once again 🙏

I thought as much – you can’t always choose your framing. Sometimes the circumstances force a particular composition, so I completely understand where you’re coming from.
