Poll Results – The Most Popular Cameras.

This poll is a bit late going up, but here it is! We released a poll in a number of Facebook groups, none of which were especially for any particular camera bias and concentrate on general photography.

The question was simple:

Which camera(s) is your main use camera that you use daily?

The results.

Nikon 34%

Fuji 23%

Canon 19%

Sony 14%

OM Systems 7%

Panasonic 1%

Pentax 1%

Others 1%

The results speak for themselves and we’re taken from 154 votes over 5 days.

You know the score… There’s plenty to see in the website, have a look around!

  1. Hi Mark,

Always interesting to see these polls, although with 154 votes I’d be a bit careful reading too much into the percentages.

What I did find interesting is OM System sitting at 7%. For a relatively small brand with only a handful of current bodies, compared to the much broader lineups from Nikon, Canon or Sony, that feels like a fairly strong showing.
Which makes me wonder… do results like this actually reflect preference, or mostly what people already happen to own and have invested in?

Which makes me a little curious.

    1. It pretty much lines up with much bigger pools I’ve seen. This time I deliberately only put it in general groups to make it much more accurate, rather than putting it in dedicated camera groups which skew the figures. They are always a bit of fun, and over the decade I’ve been doing them, they really haven’t changed much, other than when Fuji was really popular.

And of course, OM Systems have put on a great show here, which is lovely to see, and if it was just reflecting on the groups I run on Tuesdays, this figure would be much higher!

      1. Hi Mark,
That’s fair, and I get what you’re saying, especially if you’ve been seeing similar patterns over a longer period of time.

I suppose what keeps catching my attention is how much those numbers seem to shift once you look at larger datasets like Flickr, and not region based, where the balance ends up looking quite different again, even if the overall relationships stay somewhat familiar, except for Nikon and Canon, which seem to switch places rather dramatically in Canon’s favour.

Which makes it interesting in a different way, not so much who comes out on top, but how much the picture changes depending on where you look or live. I suppose we’ve seen that before as well, with RawTherapee for example, I seem to have quite a few users around my site, while you mentioned you hardly come across it in your own circles.

Still, always nice to see OM System holding its ground 🙂

The day started sunny here, hope you’re getting some good weather your way as well.

        All the best,
        Marc

      2. Indeed, I’ve seen quite a few huge polls recently which are very similar to this bit with many more participants.

The polls were run worldwide and there are people from USA to China taking part it in as always (all my photography groups are international).

And you have captured your own little world with RawThearapee. It’s something I never see mentioned, and I’ve never met anyone at all who has used it for more than a quick go. I’m glad you’ve captured that little bubble. The same goes for RapidRaw, I have started a few groups for it, but interest is very low. It only gets attention when I post on the website!

Enjoy your week. More stuff coming soon!
