A Few Hours At The Viaducts Of Pontrhydyfen

Famous for being the birthplace of Richard Burton, Pontrhydyfen is a lovely small village in South Wales on the outskirts of Port Talbot. The village hosts a number of stunning Viaducts which have long since stopped being used for their original function of transporting goods via train over the valleys.

I took my Nikon Z6ii and the one lens I chose today was the Nikkor F-Mount 14-24mm. A lovely combination for the style of photographs I wanted today. It was a great turnout by the group, for what was a very cold and windy day.

As I still do not have my laptop back (it’s on its way, but stuck at DPD at the moment), these are quick jpeg edits, from images I transferred using Nikon’s Snap bridge app.

I was going for a film like look today, as I thought the old just deserved that look, and I edited the jpegs in Snapseed.

I hope you enjoyed! Call back soon for more.

  1. What is Snapseed? Guess I could googly it eh? Anyway two I liked but decided to do an initial play with a couple  The viaduct image HDR done a couple times after making some Highlight reduction twice 50% and then some light sharpening. Used PSX as usual but a sky replacement with NEO might have been even better.  Fig. 1 viaduct

Fig.2 Cabin  The second image I liked I thought again HDR but not as a first thing. Dropped the highlights and then used HDR followed by a bit of blur and then lowering of whites — the major items anyway. Oh, yes I did ad a minor touch of blue to the whole image. At first I was going to mask just the sky but liked the tone of the whole image after doing the small amount of blue. Let me know again your thoughts as hopefully all of this is good for each of us to try to develop possibilities with any image as everyone likely will have other ideas. I have a program called PhotoSketcher which I might use to try for a painterly look to the images. I have used this for a few of mine and my wife’s images and rather like the effects based upon those images. Also, without the white border, I might have cropped Fig.2 a bit differently and might even have used a vignette. Just a couple of thoughts.Fig.2

    1. Thank you Marc, much appreciated. I am really enjoying the camera, I’ve really simplified how I do things and just love the output that the camera gives me now. My laptop is due back today, so I can do proper editing again soon!
