I have photographed Neath Abbey a lot of times, so today was quite hard to find any inspiration. I took plenty of photographs, but only chose the ones I am sharing with you. Since the last visit, Neath Abbey, and Wales’ Government conservation group CADW, has opened up more of the ancient ruins for us to visit and enjoy.
I used my Nikon Z6ii with my Z14mm and my Z24-70mm for most of the images, and also used my Lumix DMC-FS10 for images I thought would look good in black and white.
These are the colour images, they were edited in Luminar Neo.

For my black and white images, they are the straight from camera jpeg images. I really feel that the black and white from the FS10 are very filmic in their look.

As I said, it was a great morning. The skies were blue, and there was harsh lighting, but I do not actually mind those conditions for this type of photography. I really did struggle today, but at least I got something out of it.

Great series, Mark. I love old castle and abbey ruins – so mysterious and atmospheric – and you captured them beautifully. Nice black-and-whites too.
I’m actually thinking of converting one of my two Leica T bodies to a dedicated B&W camera as an experiment. Either with a small internal operation or a software-based approach. Still documenting the “how” before I pick up my doctor’s coat and scalpel. 🙂

That’ll be fun. I do have my other Lumix which IR converted, and I could shoot that in b&W too… But I always forget about it 🤣 thank you Marc
