Nikon Fujifilm Film-Like Films Simulations

I have a new video up on Youtube explaining Nikon Colour Profiles and their similarities to Fujifilm Film Simulation “recipes”. It is a great video that you should check out in the window below. However, images from that video can be seen here more clearly and of course on your computer screen.

These are the sample images I used in the video, they are labelled for you to know what is what. Each of these is what your unedited jpeg would look like if you were to use the colour profile that you select in your camera or in NX Studio. Of course, you must first download them from the fabulous website niconpc.com and install them onto your camera or software. If there is enough interest, I shall show you in the next blog how to do this quickly and easily.

There are subtle changes to each look, which is of course how it should be for film, they are not usually as easy to tell apart as we think they are. On a larger selection of images, you will see more difference, especially in the greens, blues and reds.

Here is another example.

And here are the Nikon colour profiles I have been working on, and which I shall add to a dedicated Nikon simulation page in the coming days with all the settings needed to achieve them.

As you can see, with my colour profiles, I have purposely tried to make colours very different and to give the user of them a good choice. Of course, I am only scratching the surface with this, so there will be much more to come!

Let me know what you think, I would welcome feedback. Is the nikonpc website all you need, or should I develop a few different looks and styles to share with other Nikon users.

Thank you for reading, and watching, and there will be a follow up to this very soon.

  1. Your own Nikon color profiles look great, and although I don’t have a Nikon, I do have a page that I dedicate to film simulation with other cameras, I would like to write something about that in the coming days/week and a link to your site and video – as I have done in the past with Fujifilm simulations.
I’m curious about the interest of your readers and whether you will continue with it.
Nice work Mark and keep up the good work!

    1. It would be an honour for you to link Marc. I intend to do a page of around 20-30 colour profiles, which I believe should cover most basis. I just need to experiment. I don’t really want to get into fixed White Balance, but that might be an option to expand the profiles.

      Thank you very much Marc.

  2. Hello-my name is Marty G. I have about 35 nikonpc film simulations added to my NX studio-15 B&W and 20 color. I also have 9 B&W simulations added to my nikon d7100 an Z5 cameras so I can shoot B&W JPEGS right in camera when I choose. Works great. More custom simulations to choose from could be interesting-although at this time I prefer the Vintage choices. My email is Martyg157@outlook.com. Please reach out if you choose to talk further.
    Thanks/Marty G.

  3. Hi Mark! Your profiles are certainly of interest, thank you for your work! I remember your fuji recipes and have used them before! Reading your post, looking at example profiles, I would like to immediately see the settings; it would be absolutely great if there was a folder for downloading them at the end of the publication, in my opinion. Unfortunately, nikonpc contains many, to put it mildly, controversial profiles, look for yours there, but they are all without the name of the author. Thank you and good luck!

  4. Have been using a Z5 for a couple of years, in addition to my X-E2. Never been really happy with standard Nikon colors, also tried some from nikonpc site. Usually just apply styles in DT. Any contribution to the Nikon color palette will be appreciated.
