Another Year Secured For The Website

Ah yes, it has been a good few years that I have been on WordPress, and before that my website was with another supplier. As from this week, I have secured another year to keep this website paid and advert free for my users. Let us take a quick look at a few things.

Firstly, generally, I do this website for the joy of photography, and not to make money. Occasionally I will suggest a payment to help me with costs, but those times are very few and far between. onecameraonelens.com, the website was an idea I had a long time ago. It is a document of my photography journey, mostly the fun aspects, but often work I have done, or articles and reviews.

For some statistics, to give you an idea of how the website is going, take a look at the following.

Firstly, these are all based on the last 12 months, so it will give you an idea of the traffic.

I am happy with the way things are going. Year on year I am getting more visitors, more interaction and enjoying updating the website more than ever. The price to pay for this is very reasonable, and at around £5 a month for everything that WordPress offers, it is hard to give up on the onecameraonelens domain!

As I move forward though, there is a possibility that I will remove my Fujifilm recipes section, and although popular, it does not reflect who I am now. Potentially I could just remove the options from my menu, but people will still be able to access them from web searches and external links. It is an option, and one I am considering.

I definitely want to do more reviews on the website, of latest software updates for camera and editing packages, also of cameras and lenses and anything else photo related. I was doing that regularly at one point, but I let it slip, so I will address that.

Whatever happens, please enjoy, please participate, and remember, if you ever want to be featured, please let me know!

  1. Hey Mark,

Those are some impressive numbers you’ve got there – just goes to show you’re on the right track!
About your Fujifilm recipes – just sharing my thoughts here – but in your case, I wouldn’t remove the pages. You’ve clearly put a lot of time and effort into them, and they probably played a big role in getting you to where you are now.

If it were me, I’d just remove the menus, not the actual content. But of course, it’s your site, your call.

I think your followers – myself included – are looking forward to what’s coming next.
So keep up the great work, Mark!

    All the best,
    Your friend,
    Marc

  2. Yes, it would initially be removed from the menus, and I would monitor things from there. Thanks Marc, it’s been a lot of work but numbers like this make it worth it.

  3. I think this should be celebrated more on the internet! I’ve run my site for over 20 years now and have been intentional about running no ads etc for a long time. There are so few places on the internet you can find that have good content and aren’t spam-like. Congrats to you!

the important thing is to keep going. I’ve had fits and starts over the years some that have killed my traffic completely and then slowly build back up but consistently and good content is key and king.
in my case I’m trying to move towards the once every three years on WordPress to save some money, but I’m now working on three sites, my photography site, a hobby site, and a garden site (last two are basically new ventures), and I wish I was doing the plan you’re on but I started on a higher tier for the theme I’m using. Anyway, gets pricey after all that but I’m still committed to making high quality content and making the internet a better place in my small way.
Keep up the great work! And also it was pretty cool to see my site on your referrals, that’s how the internet should be 😬
