Whiteford Burrows National Nature Reserve and Llanrhidian Saltmarsh Visit (In New Recipe Vintage Chrome)

We visited Whiteford Burrows National Nature Reserve and Llanrhidian Saltmarsh, so what better excuse to try out a new recipe that I had been working on. I wanted a vintage feeling Chrome recipe, with all the feel of my recent Vintage Summer recipe. Rather than do a quick conversion from Provia based to Classic Chrome however, I thought I would rework it to something completely different.

All images are straight from camera compositions. The images were shot in raw, and using Fujifilm’s very own X Raw Studio PC app, I connected the camera to the laptop and reprocessed them from the recipe they were shot in (MGA Colour Chrome+). This allows the camera to process the raw file and create jpeg images so they look exactly as if you had been using that recipe in camera. From there they were re-sized in Photoscape X Pro as a batch resize. No exposure tweaks were performed.

It was an incredible walk, taking us to places we had never been before. The idea was to visit the historic lighthouse as the tide allowed us to get quite close to it, and on the way we experienced some amazing countryside, through salt marsh flats, forests and beach.

The meet also allowed me to try out my new XF18-135mm lens again, and as always it was attached to my Fujifilm X-T3. The aim of this recipe was to create a nostalgic looking, filmic vibe. A far less vibrant palette of colours than I usually use, and hopefully one that some people can enjoy.

The settings for this are as follows, and it is an X-Trans IV recipe, although it will work on X-Trans III minus the Chrome effect setting.

Push/Pull (Exposure): 0EV (or expose for the highlights)
Dynamic Range: DR200
Film Simulation: Classic Chrome
Grain Effect: As required (illustrated are some without and some on high)
Colour Chrome Effect: Strong
White Balance: 6300K
WB Shift: R: -5 B: 5
Highlight Tone: -2
Shadow Tone: -2
Colour: -4
Sharpness: +4
Noise Reduction: -4

Once again, thank you for viewing, and I hope that you find some use for these recipes. I like to be a little different with the recipes compared to others, trying to keep them useful and fun. All feedback is much appreciated. Please click here to be taken to more Fujifilm recipes.

  1. Hello Mark, Great photos – great colors – great recipe ! The XF 18-135mm is fantastic, isn’t it ?
I love the lighthouse on picture nr9 and 10.
And can you pack the camera on photo nr 14, it’s just there, and no owner to be seen, probably forgotten. I’ll send you my address later. I know someone who is very interested in it … ME !
    What a beautiful thing !

    1. That camera is owned by a guy who exclusively shoots film. He has many different medium format and other format film cameras. Always fascinated to see those big ones in action!

I’m enjoying the 18-135mm. It feels kind of cheating having all that range, and it’s big and heavy compared to the other lenses, but I’m enjoying it.

      Thanks Marc.
