I have been wanting to do a tennis or sports themed photography portrait shoot for a long time now, and as it looks like we are going to have a long hard winter. I chose this opportunity to capture a regular model friend of mine, Mark Davies, dressed up like a tennis player, and having some fun on the court!
“Camera… Lens… Action!”
I always get asked which cameras and lenses I used, and for this shoot I used my Nikon Z6ii with the 7Artisans 10mm F/2.5 MAX along with my Nikon ZF and my new TTArtisans 85mm F/1.8 lens. I shot the fisheye at between F/4 and F/8, while the 85mm was shot at F/1.8 throughout the shoot.
For lighting I used my trusty Godox AD200, which is just an amazing light, plus my brand new Godox IT32 mini-flash, which I will be reviewing soon. The new flash was attached to my Z6ii for the fisheye exclusively.
I decided to edit the images in ON1 Photo Raw 2026 MAX (latest version), as some scenes had quite a lot of dynamic range in them, and I just find that ON1 works well for this. Plus, I just like using ON1 for portrait shoots, it just does really well with those.
“Fisheye Fun”
I’m really starting to get the feel for using fisheye lenses in portrait photography. I love the fun it brings to a shoot, and you can be very creative with the images. Here are the fisheye images that I have edited so far.

“Portraits With The Portrait Lens”
Of course I took plenty of images with the 85mm portrait lens too, including some action shots. This was a great way to test out the autofocus on the new lens, and as expected, it was fantastic at hitting focus every time.

“Conclusion”
I had planned quite a few other poses and ideas, but as you can see in some of the photos, we had some rain. Of course we kept shooting, but it can be off-putting having the rain fall and the temperature suddenly dropping.
As I mentioned after yesterdays shoot, I am super happy with the TTArtisan 85mm lens. It is so sharp, and has beautiful rendering. Today was also the first time I used the new IT32 flash, and that worked out well too, I can’t wait to use it for upcoming events, including indoor events.
