RapidRaw 1.6.4 has just been released. Here you can find what is new, what I’ve tried and my thoughts. Please see the video for a rundown and some live tests of the updates in real-time as I explore the new features.
“New Features”
- Highlight Recovery – This has been totally re-written and initial impressions are promising.
- New Crop, Pan And Zoom Shortcuts – Handy for a quick and easy workflow.
- Library Navigation – This has been enhanced so you can navigate much quicker between folders.
- Masonry Library Grid – A new library grid option that I really like, allowing images to be seen utilizing all available on-screen space.
- Neutral Grey Canvas – You can now toggle the canvas background to a neutral middle-grey in the settings. This helps avoid optical contrast illusions and color bias while editing.
“Core Improvements”
- Export Subfolders: Added support for exporting to the original folder with a custom subfolder.
- Smoother Vibrance: Rewrote the vibrance algorithm to behave much more smoothly and predictably.
- Quick Filter State: The expanded/collapsed state is now remembered across sessions.
- EXIF & Metadata Fixes: Fixed several bugs that caused EXIF data to go missing & metadata now shows up properly inside the Albums view.
- Under-the-Hood: Squashed a bunch of bugs for better overall stability.
“Conclusions And Download”
As always, this is a great update. I like the way that the highlight recovery seems to work, and how the sliders are starting to feel like they do more, however the “auto” feature is still sadly over-exposing most photographs thrown at it.
